10 notable apps to come out of Utah

Unbeknownst to many locals a number of very successful iPhone, iPad and Mac apps have come out of Utah. Some you’ve probably already heard of but didn’t know were based here. Others have quietly grown into large businesses. Really it’s no surprise that strong tech businesses are being founded in Utah.

I wanted to highlight some of these companies and their apps. They often work under the radar but deserve a lot more credit.

And so in no particular order here are 10 awesome apps straight from Utah:

**1. Landscaper’s Companion by **Stevenson Software
Created by Dave Stevenson, Landscaper’s Companion is the leading gardening app for iPhone and iPad. The app lets you search a database of over 26,000 plants and includes information like correct watering amounts, proper shading levels, and seasonality.

**2. Day One by **Bloom Built

Day One is simply the best journaling app for your Mac or iPhone. I use it practically every day.
Sincing launching in March 2011, Paul Mayne and team have received a number of accolades, including 2012 Mac App of the Year by Apple.

**3. ToDo by **Appigo
ToDo from Appigo was one of the first apps on the App Store back in 2008. It has stood the test of time as a swarm of other productivty and todo list apps have entered the market. Founders Calvin Gaisford and Boyd Timothy have since launched into the business market with Todo Pro. They offer an easy way to sync and view all your tasks from practically any device for your entire team.

**4. GW Mail by **Ghost Pattern Software

Ghost Pattern Software makes the most popular Novell GroupWise apps for iPhone and iPad. They offer clients for Mail, Calendar, and Contacts.

**5. Travelgram by **Sand Mountain Studios

TravelGram helps you add beautiful location stamps to your pictures automatically. It was ranked as high #5 in Free Apps across the entire App Store, meaning it’s been downloaded hundreds of thousands, if not millions of times.

***6. Lucky Word Search by ***Apps by Lift

Lucky Word Search is a fun word search app for kids. It helps teach parents more about the learning habits of their children. Ultimately it will be combined with other learning-based games to create a suite that help parents and teachers understand more about how their children learn.

**7. Property Evaluator by **Wasatch Digital Media

Property Evaluator is the most powerful real estate investment analysis software for the iPad. Using user-created data it creates performance estimates to help users do true apples-to-apples comparisons for potential properties acquisitions.

**8. Operator by **Plainsimple
Operator uses gestures to help you quickly contact your friends and family. Instead of pulling open all your contacts, swiping a bunch of times, tapping, etc., Operator puts all your favorite contacts a swipe away. Double tap to text or triple tap to email. It’s fun and easy, and it looks great. Check it out for the awesome icon alone.

**9. Aether by **Open Reel Software
Aether is a ham radio logging application for the Mac. Aether includes tools to quickly and easily log QSOs while on the air, as well as organize, search and track your QSOs later. Aether was designed specifically for Mac OS X, and has the same kind of clean, intuitive, friendly interface you’ve come to expect on the Mac.

**10. Tattoo You by **Appdicted
Last but not least, Tattoo You lets you add virtual tattoos to your photos. With over 2.7 million downloads, Tattoo You has become a hit among iPhone users everywhere. It comes with over 40 free designs in the App and lets you purchase additional packs in the app.
