Silicon Slopes & BYU MBA To Host Career Fair
The first-ever Silicon Slopes BYU Marriott MBA School Career Fair is happening this November at BYU. Partnering Silicon Slopes, the hub of one of the fastest-growing job markets in the country, and the nationally-recognized BYU MBA program together for a career fair is a logical and natural fit. We invite you to partner and participate with us in this new and exciting venture. We are hoping to start a long-lasting tradition that is valuable to all involved.
"Silicon Slopes is excited to unite with BYU’s MBA Program in building Utah’s startup and tech community", says Clint Betts, Silicon Slopes’ co-founder and executive director. "The jointly sponsored Career Fair will help local companies tap into the high-quality and well-trained talent in our own backyard."
Leaders at the BYU MBA school agree. "A decade ago, I told our students to ‘get out of Utah’ because there were so few MBA-level jobs here. That sure changed," says BYU MBA director Grant McQueen. "Now and in the past, my students took jobs in The Bay Area, Seattle, and Austin with companies such as Amazon, Cisco, Dell, Google, Intel, and Microsoft. Now I’m telling students interested in tech or in building a business to drive a few miles up I-15. The companies need talent and the students need jobs. Collaborating on a career fair makes sense."
The first Silicon Slopes BYU MBA Career Fair will focus on marketing, finance, HR, and operations, as well as roles in analytics, product management, business development, and strategy. The Fair will be for BYU MBA students in the morning and open up for BYU Marriott undergraduate students in the afternoon. The intention is to foster and promote Silicon Slopes companies to BYU students while exposing the well-prepared and capable talent found in the Marriott School to the fantastic job opportunities found in Utah Silicon Slopes companies.
Carine Clark, CEO of Banyan, is a member of the Silicon Slopes Executive Board and a graduate of BYU’s MBA program. She is very enthusiastic about the upcoming Career Fair. "Uniting these two strong brands in a career fair is good for all involved. It’s a win-win-win. A win for the individual companies, a win for Silicon Slopes, and a win for BYU’s MBA program and students."
Matt Peterson, co-founder of JIVE and another BYU MBA alumnus, is also looking forward to the collaboration. "My experience at BYU’s MBA program has been invaluable in my career as a tech entrepreneur. It’s been ten years since I graduated with my MBA, but I still interact with someone from my program almost every day. The relationships I formed and the skills I developed at BYU have helped me raise capital, find talent, and create unbelievable opportunities, both personal and professional. I’ve also been involved with Silicon Slopes, both as a tech founder and community participant. I am constantly amazed at its trajectory and success. These two strong and growing institutions are an obvious geographical and philosophical fit."
The Silicon Slopes/BYU MBA Career Fair is scheduled for November 7, 2019. It will be held in the Hinckley Building on the BYU campus. We are looking forward to seeing you there. Watch for registration details coming soon.
