SCO v. IBM case returns to Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — One of the longest-running legal battles in the technology sector is returning Utah.
The Utah district court approved a proposal to reopen the decade long court case between SCO and IBM after two years of dormancy. The legal dispute began in March 2003 when SCO filed a $1 billion suit against IBM for alleged unauthorized use of its code.
SCO Group claims IBM allegedly used its UNIX code from UNIX system V and, by doing so, violated its license agreement with the company, according to Ars Technica.
Judge David Nuffer ordered the case reopened on June 14.
“What SCO should really ask the court for is a Time Machine, so it can go back in time and do a better job,” said Pamela Jones, editor of open-source software legal blog Groklaw, in a recent post.
