Silicon Slopes Conversations: Baltic Born
Scandinavian roots, work ethic that's off the charts, and self-taught drive: that's what makes up the sister-founded business Baltic Born. Garrett Clark sat down with sisters Angela, Allison, and Marianne for our Silicon Slopes Conversation on Friday, January 6th, 2023.
It's the kind of founding story that gives you the warm fuzzies–three sisters building a successful business from the ground up and remaining close along the way. In 2016, the sisters hatched a side-hustle, buying pieces here and there and starting a boutique-style clothing business. They'd buy 20 or so pieces at a time and grew organically with word-of-mouth and, with kids in tow, by attending any and every pop-up opportunity they could.
With Google, trial and error, and the "find out what is working and keep doing that" mentality, the Baltic Born sisters have grown from the spare bedroom, to the the basement, to numerous small warehouses, to the 30,000 square foot facility they're operating in now.
"Failure wasn't an option," said Allison. When something didn't work, the sisters never threw up their hands in defeat. It was a constant dance of pivoting, changing, and learning more. With each sister leaning into their natural business roles, Baltic Born is on track to do $100M in sales this year, a huge feat for any business in a short amount of time.
The sisters closely monitor data, what's selling and why, and they also think about the women they're selling to. They test the products themselves–lifting their children while wearing a dress or walking around in a piece, bending and moving–really paying attention to the details. At the end of the day, what matters to Angela, Allison, and Marianne is that their customers feel good about themselves–that they feel comfortable, confident, sexy, and happy.
With big goals and steep growth, the Baltic Born sisters are ready to tackle 2023 with mega energy. To learn more, visit balticborn.com
