We created The Beehives because we thought it would be cool to turn the tables on the normal award dynamic. Instead of recognizing the leaders within the Utah tech and startup community, people who have been awarded and highlighted countless times at countless banquets, we asked those leaders to chose an individual associated with their company that has brought untold value, heart, and selflessness to those around them.
You’ve all been to an awards banquet, so I don’t need to tell you how things go — a lot of prominent people being highlighted for their success, while those who helped them rise to power smile and applaud from the audience. Nothing at all wrong with it, but you’ve seen that format before.

Instead of recognizing the leaders within the Utah tech and startup community, people who have been awarded and highlighted countless times at countless banquets, we asked those leaders to choose an individual associated with their company that has brought untold value, heart, and selflessness to those around them.
On Wednesday, September 2, The Beehives were presented at The Covey Center in downtown Provo. The format was simple: each presenter was given time to explain why the recipient deserves recognition, then the recipient was brought on-stage to say whatever their heart desired. There were funny stories, touching moments, and tears flowing freely. It was a fun, fulfilling night and hopefully one that all who participated won’t soon forget.
