The Owlet Smart Sock was created because as we all know, parenting is hard work. Realizing the stress levels of parents skyrocket when newborn babies are involved, Owlet made a sock that monitors vital signs on infant children. Parents can monitor all information via a smartphone, giving them the peace and comfort of knowing their child is safe.
Last year, Owlet raised $1.85 million in seed funding from a variety of venture firms, on the heels of completing the RGA Connected Devices Accelerator program, powered by Techstars. So what does the future hold for Owlet, besides a bevy of sophisticated infant socks? More involvement in a Techstars program.
Techstars ++ classes were created to give companies that have already participated in a Techstars cohort the opportunity to extend that experience. In addition to two other companies (Telespine and Jintronix), Owlet has been chosen to reinforce the June Techstars ++ class in Rochester, Minnesota. The class will be held over two weeks at the Mayo Clinic Business Accelerator, where the participating companies will be offered a full complement of services ranging from mentorship to business development opportunities.
“Being in the Techstars network we knew about the two week program that the Mayo Clinic was putting on,” Owlet co-founder Jordan Monroe said. “We are a very consumer-heavy team so getting that exposure and mentoring from the medical world that the Mayo Clinic is in is very valuable.”
